It's too damn noisy. Jongin pushes his hand into his pocket and squints out at the mass of screaming fans. Joonmyun shoots him a sidelong look that he knows is supposed to be a reminder to smile, to be nice, but Jongin can't be bothered. He's exhausted and his head hurts and this is the worst part of all about this job. Waking up at an hour that should be illegal and then having to go deal with people. It's stupid. He grimaces, wrinkling up his nose and sighing.
There's a touch at his elbow. “Don't make faces,” Kyungsoo chides softly, and when Jongin turns to look at him, he's grinning, amused. “Joonmyun will never let you hear the end of it.” The gentle pressure of Kyungsoo's arm against his is like an anchor for Jongin. It's easier to bear all the noise when he's there.
“Fine,” Jongin grumbles, but the edge isn't there anymore. “I'll be good.” Kyungsoo's pleased smile makes Jongin nudge him in retaliation, but his irritation is melting away under Kyungsoo's gaze. When Kyungsoo's knuckles brush up against Jongin's, it pushes the crowd that much further away.
There has always been something about Kyungsoo that grounds Jongin. He instinctively knows when Jongin is feeling overwhelmed, knows exactly when Jongin needs the press of fingers against his side or a voice in his ear to distract him. Jongin knows that all of this, training, debut, fans, would have been a lot harder without Kyungsoo and his sharp eyes and flawless sense of timing.
Jongin's still not quite awake, thanks to a practice that ran long, and as much as he appreciates their fans, the screaming still grates on his nerves. It's Kyungsoo's voice, soft as he speaks to Joonmyun, that eases it all. Kyungsoo's eyes flick to meet Jongin's, checking in on him, and Jongin's annoyance fades. For a second, he hooks his pinky in Kyungsoo's and squeezes. The flash of happiness that crosses Kyungsoo's face is bright enough to light a city block.
Jongin tries to keep aware of his surroundings, but despite his best efforts he yawns and stumbles, barely catching himself with a hand on Kyungsoo's shoulder. Kyungsoo looks over from his conversation with their manager and smiles, dipping his head for a second to press his chin to Jongin's fingers. It sends a rush of sweet, comfortable warmth to his belly, so Jongin leaves his hand there, letting Kyungsoo lead him through the airport.
On the plane, Kyungsoo takes the seat next to Jongin automatically, offering him an earbud. Jongin shakes his head, curling up against Kyungsoo's side instead, burying his face in Kyungsoo's shoulder. It's not as comfortable as it could be, but the heat of Kyungsoo's skin and the tinny noise of music from his headphones are already lulling him into sleep.
If he's lucky, he'll catch a couple of hours on the flight. It's the only good thing about flying, really. A chance to catch up on his sleep, with no expectations. Kyungsoo rests a hand on Jongin's knee, rubbing his thumb rhythmically against his jeans as he tips his head against Jongin's. Jongin smiles, just a little, as he drifts off. Sometimes, the mornings are bearable.

BUT MOSTLY, KAISOO FEEEEEEEEEEEELINGS i love how easy they are with each other, i think that is the magic of their relationship that they're both pretty much willing to do anything for the other person because they are each other's fav people. and like bless kyungsoo for existing and being the most adorable and loving jongin so sincerely and being all warm and lovely and kim jongin is SO FUCKING LUCKY.
that said, grumpy brat kai is my fav, he thinks his life is so hard, it's adorable. like i just screamed at you, the end is my fav bit because ugh, cuddling on the plane and kyungsoo rubbing circles on his knee. AND JONGIN, WHY WON'T YOU JUST SLEEP IN HIS LAP.
you continue to amaze me, never stop, write me krai kbai
